Facebook chat workaround

July 18, 2011

I guess, by now, many of you (facebook users) are annoyed with the new look and functionality of the Facebook’s chatbox. I didn’t get FB’s point either on mixing your online and offline friends all together without a scroll bar functionality. How in the internet did that make it easier for the users compared to the old chatbox style? But, still, I may have no idea on what Facebook is upto right now.

And because of that, here’s a suggested workaround I’m sharing. This is best for users having dual monitor setup. If you’re wanting to have the scroll bar functionality back then open another browser tab and go to this link: https://www.facebook.com/presence/popout.php

And your done!

Oooopss… some of you might still be annoyed because your chatbox is in a different tab, ey? You don’t have dual monitors? Worry no more… here’s my workaround for this:

What you can do is simply install a split screen plugin/extension application for your preferred browser.  As a sample there’s an extension for Firefox browsers called Split Panel. It’s very simple to setup and use. Now for the positioning, split your browser screen into two, (left and right. Open your normal facebook page on the left part and then open the chat workaround link (above) in the left side part. See screenshot below:

And your done!

Enjoy!

Groove it with GrooveDown

June 29, 2011

Just wanted to share this neat tool for downloading Mp3’s from www.grooveshark.co

 Quote from site:

Is downloading Songs from Grooveshark.com legal? »

Short Answer ? YES!

Now the longer explanation:
Unlike P2P file-sharing systems, all content you access through Groovedown is legal.  Downloads from GrooveDown can be used on all devices, are premium quality, virus-free and best of all the artists get paid.
Grooveshark.com is a legal source for people to stream music. The artists Grooveshark.com provides ( or the Music Labels ) get paid because of their songs being on Grooveshark. That’s why they have adverts on the side and Premium/Vip Subscriptions to finance those costs.  You as a user have a right of a private copy. That means you can make a copy for yourself if the source is legal. Since Grooveshark offers legal streams, you are allowed to create a copy just for yourself ( You are not allowed to sell, share, publish that copy somewhere it is only for private use).
So that means that downloading songs from Grooveshark via Groovedown is legal. But this statement about the legality given here contains a restriction: We dont know the law of every of the 193 Countrys in the world so we cannot be shure if that law also exists on the Cook Islands but actually it is very common so you dont have to fear an indictment or stuff like that ( especially not because GrooveDown behaves like the original Grooveshark.com Client so they wont even know..  :-)

Fonts issue

April 28, 2011
I’ve recently encountered fonts issue with Windows 7. This post is intended to those who also encountered similar issue. The resolution was tried and tested on Windows 7 machines, I haven’t tried using other OS version.

[problem]
About last week I was in a hurry to install a set of font package. The install process completed without any issue. But when I tried to use the fonts in adobe photoshop, the font menu didn’t load at all. It actually caused adobe photoshop not to respond and eventually it crashed. I tried to restart adobe photoshop for about 3 times and still with no luck, it crashed and crashed again. From this time, I was already thingking that I may have overlooked something during my fonts installation.

[solution]
I already had a hunch that maybe the package installed a huge number of fonts in the system. I then checked to see the fonts that were installed in the system and found out that I can’t actually view the contents of the “Fonts” folder. I tried viewing it using word processors(e.g. MSWord and LibreOffice) and was surprised that it didn’t crashed when I viewed the fonts.

What I did next was to find a way on how to uninstall the fonts. I tried searching for a free font software to do the job. After several minutes of searching Google.com, I’ve found this neat font viewing software at http://xiles.net/downloads/#NexusFont

The software was quick to download, easy to install and easy to use. But above all, it was licensed as Freeware. When I ran the software, I found out that the total fonts installed was about 30,000+. Whew! silly me, I only I did my SOP before installing fonts then the issue shouldn’t had happened.hehehe

With the use of the font manage, I selected and uninstalled the fonts. It took sometime for it to finish but it did so with no issue. It resolved the problem with ease. So for those who have the same issue with fonts then I suggest downloading and installing the above font software.

MALI.

October 12, 2010

Kahapon madaming mali!

Panay ang ubo with matching sipon pa. Mali!

security—not

October 4, 2010

It’s been quite a long time since my last post. I would like to write about the scene I saw earlier. I took lunch in a mall somewhere down south. Here’s the scenario; a messenger went inside a well known bank without being frisked.

Talk about bank security, FTW. I’m not against the bank or anything. I would just like to point their security agency’s lack of security protocol. Would you believe that a messenger with a backpack bag went strait inside the bank with just a couple of hi, helloes and mock salutes to the security guards on duty? The guards were even riding with the guy’s joke.

But c’mon, this is a bank I’m talking about. The guards should have checked the messenger’s bags and frisked him. No wonder, there are still lots of bank related crimes here in our country eventhough the use and upgrades of security technologies and hardwares.

All I can say is just FTW!
